Sheffield Statistics

A city-wide support with statistics covering an 11 month period between 1 November, 2003 and 30 September, 2004. This report on the work of SOHAS across all PCTs provides a context for the individual PCT and surgery reports.

Number of Patients

861 individual patients were seen.

This represented 1248 consultations, as some patients were seen more than once.

Each patient was therefore seen an average of 1.45 times.

Health Problems

Main problems reported were psychological (eg stress), followed by muscles and joints.

Many patients reported more than one problem.

Most problems reported were from patients in their 50s.

Those working in metal manufacturing reported the most problems.

Exposures

The highest reported exposure was stress, followed by exposures typically associated with heavy industry.

The 50-59 age group reported the highest number of exposures.

Type of Advice Given

Preventative advice was the most common type of advice given, followed by return to work advice.

Gender

494 patients were male and 367 female, i.e. 57% male and 43% female.

Age Groups

The age band with the highest number of patients was the 50s, followed by 40s and then 30s.
