Getting Started
WHIG can be used in many different ways. Here's an overview of some of its functionality so that you can jump in where ever you feel comfortable.
The easiest way to use WHIG is just like a normal web-site; search or browse through the content until you find what you want. However, we're hoping you'll want to get a bit more involved than that and WHIG is somewhere that you can create your own resources, discuss them with other members of the site, and in the end create your own personal corner of the Internet.
WHIG aims to be accessible to everyone, if you'd like to find out about some of the usability enhancements take a look at the accessibility information. To best take advantage of WHIG's features and design, we would also strongly recommend using a browser such as Mozilla Firefox.
Here's a quick overview of what WHIG has to offer, follow the links for more information.
- If you want to find specific information, then try help on browsing or help on searching.
- Hopefully, you've found something interesting or think you would like to contribute. In which case you might want to find out about becoming a member.
- Members than have the opportunity to make their mark on WHIG. The quickest way to get started is to rate or comment on an existing resource.
- You can also start making content and adding your own resources to WHIG, either a link to another web page, a file such as a document or presentation, an event you would like to publicise, an image such as a photo or diagram, or perhaps you'd just like to create your own free-form page in the site. You've also got the option to add news items that appear as announcements on the front page or create a folder to organise all of your previous contributions!.
- You can also make a more informal contribution to the site. Try chatting with, or posing questions for other members in the forums or record your personal account of work and health related experiences in your journal.
Most importantly, explore the site and try things out. If you run into problems or think there is something we should add, tell us! The more people use WHIG the more it will continue to improve.
