Creating a link to another page or site on the Internet.
Select to add a link. The easiest type of content to add to WHIG is simply a link to another page on the Internet. To do this, choose the "Link" type from your "add item" or "add to folder" drop-down menu. The form you will be presented with has three main fields you need to fill in.
- Title: A meaningful title that will show up in the folder and in any search results. The easiest thing to do is grab the title of the page to which you are linking.
- Description: You then have the opportunity to add some further explanation of the link. Users will see about three lines of this in their search results, and the full description when the view the link. Ideally, you want to tell them what is on the page, why it is useful, and who will find it useful.
- URL: This is the location of the page on the Internet. You can copy and paste this from the address or location bar (normally at the top of your browser) for the page to which you are linking.
As an example, if you wanted to make a link to WHIG then you could use:
- Title
- Work and Health Information Gateway
- Description
- A helpful site to find or contribute all the information you could ever want on health and work.
- URL
- http://whig.org.uk/ (including the "http://" is important!)
When you're done, don't forget to save your resource and submit it for publication!
