Using Journals

Keep a personal record of your work and health-related experiences to share with the world.

This is an opportunity for everyone to start making a personal contribution to the site by keeping an on-line journal. Here are some of the things you might want to keep a record of:

  • a problem at work you've tackled;
  • better yet, a hazard at work that you managed to avoid;
  • an event you went to;
  • maybe you've been off work with a health problem and you could record some of your experiences;
  • saw something in the news that may well have an effect on the way we work and live?

To add a journal, go to your folder and select "blog" from the "add to folder" drop-down menu. This is going to act like a folder for all your journal entries. So, fill in the title and description as usual. Since a blog is more personal, you can come up with any name you like to try and attract some readers. You then have three more choices to make on the form:

  • Display Mode: When people view your blog you can decide whether they will just see the title of each entry, the title and description, or the whole thing. If you're entries are going to be quite long, then it's best to stick to title and description so people can follow the link if they'd like to read more.
  • BlogEntries to display: This is how many of your recent entries you would like displayed on the first page of your blog.
  • Possible Categories: You can define some keywords for your entries, so that readers can look at related entries if they're interested in the topic. Some examples might be "asthma", "new policy", "office hazards", and so on.

You can always come back and change these settings at a later date.
