- Workers memorial Day Walk pictures submitted by Shay Boyle — last modified 2005-10-03 02:09
- The Workers memorial Day Walk on 24th April started and ended at TRUST offices on Saltergate Chesterfield. Welcome refreshments and a buffet were provided and the quiz was well received and all 4 prizes claimed. Thankfully there were no accidents or injuries (save maybe a few blisters?). The preparation was hard work at times trawling through many different maps trying to get one that worked well. Reading historical books from the Chesterfield Library and walking the route noting down different points. But, I enjoyed it all and in the months and weeks preparing for the walk I have learned more about Chesterfield than I ever knew. Many thanks to all the people who took park and made the day worthwhile. I hope we can do it again next year. I am grateful for the help and advice from Dennis Ransby, the Footpaths secretary from the Ramblers, Ann Krowski from the Chesterfield Library and Simon Bernacki, Chesterfield Borough Council.Below the walkers make their way along Broad Oaks footpath, formally the site of Markham Engineering Works, famous for it's mines drilling machines and the drilling of the Channel Tunnel.

More people die from asbestos related diseases each year than on Britain's roads... yet there is little government funding for medical research. Last year in Britain about 2000 people died from Mesothelioma... this trend is still rising. This is our story. Exposure to asbestos and the cancer it can cause... told by those who have first-hand knowledge.
