Something Important To Do
A short poem about my life when my grandson is over.
My lounge is all messy and it has been so
Since, oh? Thursday last (I think)
The windows haven’t been cleaned for a month
And the there’s dirty pots still in the sink.
But for now, I have something important to do
From my mind tho’ it seems to have gone
Let me see now, Grandson over on Friday. That’s it!
I have to finish mowing the lawn
For Drew likes to play with his football all day
He’s so good now at bouncing and catch
And he’ll practice till night, (least, till he gets it right)
Always calling out to me “Granddad, watch”
It’s not as much fun when the grass is too long
For the ball doesn’t bounce quite so high
I must fix that gate before it gets worse
“All right Drew, I’m watching. Good boy!”
Now the car needs a wash and my work clothes as well
But I fear they will never get done
For I’m needed tonight to watch Drew on his bike
And to keep him well out of the sun
So now it’s his bath time and while he’s all wet
I might clean round the windows I think
But I have to watch him, as he practices his swim
“Hold my head Granddad. Now! Or I’ll sink”
So the chores might get done but by whom I don’t know
And you might not share my point of view
That housework is needed but when grandson is here
We’ve got something important to do
