Rest breaks for drivers
There are laws relating to working hours and rest breaks. After driving for a total of 4.5 hours a driver must take a break of at least 45 minutes, or, if working but not driving, breaks totalling a minimum of at least 30 minutes, if you work between 6 and 9 hours. A driver must also have a rest period of 11 consecutive hours in each 24 hour period. The law does not give any advice as to when meals are taken but this could be done during rest periods. The trade union AMICUS have a leaflet that you may find helpful at the following link: http://www.amicustheunion.org/Default.aspx?page=1550
Is there a law or guide line to which employers must allow for a driver to be able to have a substantial meal in a 24 hour period
